About Tom…

Firstly, I am the Father of a happy, smiley, sweet natured little girl called Isla, as well as a partner in crime to Louise, Isla’s Mummy. They give me the drive and determination to better myself every day, I do it for them. A useful bi-product of all this is that I provide a better service for my clients.

Why choose me?

I am a Qualified Dietitian, the gold standard amongst nutrition professionals and the first accreditation you should look for when choosing the right practitioner for YOU. I also practice as a Performance Nutritionist meaning I work with people wanting to, well, optimise performance in all areas, from all walks of life including International and World Champion Athletes.

I am proud to say I have seen significant success in facilitating and supporting behaviour change around the challenging area of diet, weight loss, health and performance over the last 10 years.

I was able to do this after 8 straight years of study to become a Qualified Dietitian enabling me to work in the NHS.

The clinical setting is high pressure, high reward. You are able to truly change people’s lives in the acute and chronic sense, this included prescribing Nasal Gastric feeds in patients unable to consume food and drink orally, as well as constructing a nutrition plan for an oncology patient who is receiving Radiotherapy or Chemotherapy as part of their Cancer treatment. My job was constantly varied, the Crossfit of the nutrition world if you like.

This constant variation broadened my skillset from Cancer specific nutrition, Diabetes, Coeliac, IBS, Stroke, Heart Disease, Weight Loss (including Obesity and Bariatric surgery), Neonatal (newborn babies), Paediatric nutrition (children), care of the elderly (COE) and even GOUT and GORD (Gastro Oesophageal Reflux Disorder) aka sever reflux.

The NHS required me to work with and advise Medical Consultants, Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Doctors and Nurses on a daily basis. Outside of the NHS, I work with International Football Managers, UFC Coaching staff and National Tennis Academy Coaches to name but a few.

Although my skillset is broad, it is by no means impersonal. Over the years I have distilled all that I have learnt and experienced into a package that enables me to work with elite athletes through to regular people wanting to optimise their health, wellbeing and lives in general.

How I Came to Choose Nutrition…

My Mother was a Nurse for 40+ years and one of the first Dietetic Technician’s in the UK. My Father was an ex-professional Footballer under the late great Sir Bobby Robson of Ipswich Town FC and England, the same club that has employed me for over 4 years as their Performance Nutritionist.

Optimal Nutrition has been prominent in my life be it for optimal athletic performance or for clinical application, so it is no surprise to me that I have ended up where I am today…changing lives through nutrition education, support and intervention!

I have never looked back from the day I left school…

A Life Long Mission…

I have devoted my adult life to Nutrition, studying the science and emotion attached to it for 15+ years.

The complexities and holistic considerations surrounding careful and sensible nutrition advice should not be underplayed. Gentleman, I am afraid nutrition is a way for inadequately qualified and unscrupulous individuals to make a quick buck, any one can do it these days… ‘get my fang dangled fat loss plan here’ or ‘lose 14lbs in 5 days on my water only diet’. All the things the unsuspecting, frustrated chap wants to hear!

Don’t fall foul guys.

In order to ensure I could offer an ethical and professional nutrition service I trained, I did my time in the trenches. All so I could understand how one element of what I do or prescribe relates to another. In turn I could sleep at night in the knowledge that I reduce risk of ‘doing harm’ aka Non-maleficence, a clinical term drilled into all Dietitians from day 1…a principle that is missing from many of today’s poorly constructed ‘nutrition programmes’!

Professionalism and Integrity…

These principles are of paramount importance to me, which motivated me to complete two degrees, the first in Sports Science and the second in Dietetics from one of the most highly respected Dietetics Universities in the UK.

As you know, you don’t have to have a degree in nutrition to practice as a ‘nutritionist’, any Tom, Dick and Harry can do it these days (and they do, trust me). I strive for the best and in turn have done the time so YOU don’t have to.

You know what you NEED to do and maybe even HOW to do it…

But you never execute it… Why not?

Go ahead, write some of the reasons down…

Time? Cost? Motivation? Family? Work? Time again? Lack of motivation? Lack of direction? What about time…have we said that one yet?

Did you write down ‘Strategy’ or ‘Lack of a plan’?

You see, a lack of direction and purpose is one of the most common hurdles to weight/fat loss and achieving the aesthetic, well-functioning body you want, need and deserve.

Knowing what to do and how to do it is only one part of the equation, Google’s got you covered there right (high chance you landed here thanks to Mr Google). In truth, anyone can find out what to eat, when to eat it and how much to eat right here online… but despite this fact we still struggle to bring it all together into a coherent and meaningful package.

Hence MANtra is here…
